  • This application is available when unexpected, exceptional circumstances outside your control affect your ability to complete assessments or sit examinations.

    We assess each application individually, looking carefully at your circumstances, supporting evidence, and how your studies have been affected.

    You may be eligible for a modified assessment arrangement, such as:

    Extension to an assessment due date
    Deferred examination
    Re-submission of an assessment
    Resitting an examination
    Adjustment of assessment results or supplementary assessment
    You must submit supporting documentation that evidences your circumstance.

    Your request should be submitted with 24 hours of the relevant incident occurring

  • Circumstances Considered

    Medical Circumstances

    • Unexpected illness
    • Recurrence of a chronic condition
    • Accident or injury

    Evidence: Medical certificate or letter from a registered practitioner/specialist.

    Compassionate Circumstances

    • Death or serious illness of aclose family member
    • Severe disruption to domestic arrangements
    • Victim of crime or accident

    Evidence: Counsellor letter, medical certificate, professional letter, funeral certificate, death notice.

    Special Circumstances

    • Religious or cultural commitments
    • Legal commitments (court attendance, jury duty)
    • Military or emergency service
    • Representing State/nation

    Evidence: Employer letter, official organisation letter, athlete/performer confirmation, accident report, court summons.

  • Circumstances NOT considered

    • Holiday or travel plans
    • Misreading assessment or exam timetables
    • Fail to note assessment dates/times
    • Submit no documentation
    • Submit incomplete documentation
    • Submit the wrong assessment file
    • Experience preventable technology issues (wifi issues or broken computer)
    • Attend a social events (e.g., celebrations, weddings, cultural events)
    • Take annual leave or personal holidays during the study period
    • Medical documentation that does not indicate you were unable to complete the task or does not cover the correct dates
    • Circumstances you could reasonably have prevented

  • Please note that you will be offered the best modified assessment arrangment that suits your application dates and cicumstances by the Subject Cooridnator after revieving your application.

  • Section 3: Upload of Supporting Evidencal Docuemntation

    All Applications for Special Consideration must be submitted with supporting documents.


    Examples of acceptable evidence include:

    • Medical certificate or letter from a medical professional (who is not a family member)
      Letter of support from a counsellor, lawyer or psychologist (who is not a family member)
    • Letter from an employer on an official company letterhead
    • Letter from a minister of religion (or the like) or cultural authority on an official letterhead or reference toa religious or cultural calendar
    • Death certificate, death notice or funeral pamphlet or certificate from a funeral director
    • Police report or event number
    • Letter from the Department of Defence, Justice or Emergency Services (or appropriate body)
    • Jury notice letter from relevant authority or court summons
    • Selection confirmation or letter from relevant body confirming sporting commitments
    • Statutory declaration from people relevant to the circumstances

    If you do not attached verifiable supporting evidence, your application will be declined.
